Consumer committee terms of reference
1. The Commission and its statutory Consumers' committee were set up under the Agriculture Act 1967.
2. The Agriculture ministers appoint the 7 members of the Committee, including the Chairman (who is also a Commission member, currently Prof. Richard Moody). The Commission appoints 3 observers (1 Producer and 2 Distributors) to the Committee.
3. The relationship between the Committee and the Commission is defined as follows:-
- If, in the opinion of the Commission any matter arising or likely to arise out of the Commission's functions has, or is likely to have, a substantial effect on the interest of consumers then the Commission shall consult the Consumers' Committee.
- The Committee may at any time submit proposals for the consideration of the Commission as to the manner in which any of the Commission's functions which are of concern to the Committee should be exercised, or make representations to the Commission on any matter which in their opinion has, or is likely to have, a substantial effect on the interests with which the Committee is concerned.
